Would you like to share your life experience and help kids?!

RetailROI has a strong relationship with a series of schools in South Africa ranging from age 3 to college age. In fact, through your contributions and support of SuperSaturday, we have more than 25 children progressing from the projects (townships) to a strong leadership high school experience and a few through college. In fact, in 2019 we had our first graduate from poor pre-school not only graduate from high school, but also college and starting as an accountant post college.

The goal is to have a continuum of opportunity - and change family trees. Some of these students are the first in their family to ever graduate high school…you are giving them that opportunity.

When we go on trips, retail executives teach classes and even do a Shark Tank experience with the students, putting together teams and rating ideas for small investments. Outside of the trips, we have been doing video calls with the high school classes at the Global Leadership Academy. This helps continue to support the opportunities for the kids coming through the projects.

Recently, Julia Cook, founder of Change Management Group, was invited by Retail Orphan Initiative (ROI), to speak to a group of business students. Julia was delighted to speak with the students about

  • focusing on solutions, not problems

  • how retailers are innovating and changing in response to Covid19

  • the importance of investing in people

They also talked about charity, Corporate Social Responsibility and how empathy, economics and education come together to create effective solutions.

The inspiring young leaders enjoyed the session and said that the presentation gave them ideas and food for thought. The teacher, Paul Du Plessis, said “My business class has been transformed. I have never seen a more enthusiastic group of learners than now. Your stories brought a static subject to life! I am inspired to continue learning after the presentation.”

Your story makes a difference. Your experience, how you got to your job, hurdles you had to overcome. All of these are critical helps…and imagine, teenagers that actually listen to you!!! Seriously, these kids gobble up the info and are staying after school to hear us speak.
